Gainesville Creative Improv - Millhopper Library - August, 2, 2010

Class started with a game called "That's my bus".
One person is acting like he is waiting for his bus.
The other person's job is to make him want to get on the bus.
Many different techniques were employed to try and get you on the bus:
bribery, annoying, and pretending to be an animal.

Then we played a game called "The Super Hero game".
There is a maiden who needs to be rescued from something.
The kids choose each-others' super powers.
We had a number of different scenarios and super heroes

super heroes    hair-ball             house
little
wet-washer
little yellow
ring of fire
bat girl
bat girl               lightening bolt   spider man

We played "Red light Green light" but changed it up a bit to include purple light and pink light with different moves for the different colors.

Then we circled up and had an "Onstage" singing moment.

Class finished with creating a "Big Machine" that deconstructed at the end of the hour.
We circled up and talked about what improvisation is and which part of the hour was each child's favorite part.

Gainesville Creative Improv - Tower Road Library - May 24, 2010

Here is one of the student creations from Improv Day:

Once upon a time there was a princess who lived in a big, big, big, tall castle. So tall that it touched the clouds. The bravest soldiers guarded all the entrances and whenever danger came they went 'CHING!'. There were many stories in the castle. The soldiers never won the battles. The princess was tied up in the castle because of an evil witch who wouldn't let her escape. The princess was very sad. She ate a bunch of stuff and got really fat. She got so fat that that the castle exploded. An airplane flew by with a string and scooped her up in a net. The airplane took the princess to a tree. The witch was roaming on her broom. She was about to cast an evil spell on the princess. The princess got trapped in the tree. Soldiers raced out and killed the witch and all her soldiers, but they didn't know that when she was alive she was dead and when she was dead she was alive. There was still a brave prince who had a sword and shield. He threw the shield at the witch's face. Then the witch got out her sword and there was a ferocious battle. The princess fell out of the tree and went into space and lived on Mars.

The Fire-breathing Dragon

Deep in the woods, in a land far away, on a sunshiny day there was a giant, joyful, orange and blue Dragon and a Knight. The Dragon was exuberantly shooting the biggest flames out of his mouth everywhere. Accidentally he started a fire in the ground that spread throughout the entire wood. Of course the Knight on the Dragon's back was very upset to see the woods -where they and many other magical creatures live, on fire. In his anger he yelled at the Dragon saying, "That's it, you must stop blowing fire! We can not live in these woods if you continue to light them up". The dragon was so sad to hear these words, because he didn't mean to start a fire, after all he loved the woods too. He tried to blow a small fire to cheer himself up and found that he couldn't make fire any more. This was a strange happening for the dragon. He didn't know that his sadness was preventing him from making a fire.
At the edge of the wood an Elephant smelled the fire. Concerned for her home and safety she ran through the woods. The Elephant ran to Tornado Creek which was next to Lake Alice which was next to Watermelon pond which was next to Skunk lake and filled up her trunk and ran with her trunk full of water to the fire and put out the entire fire.
The Wood Princess and Pony had been watching the fire with concern and noticed that the fire had suddenly gone out. They decided to go see what had happened. What they found was a very sad Dragon. The Pony wanted to be a friend to the dragon, but the Dragon didn't want to be friends. "I might eat you" said the Dragon. The Pony said, "We can be friends because the Princess will protect me. She has a sword". The Dragon was so happy that he was able to blow fire again.
Just then, the Knight and Princess noticed each other and the Princess said, " I love you". The Knight said, " I don't know about you". The Knight slid off the Dragon and walked over to the Pony and hopped on. The Pony said, "Neighhhh .... hair head". The Dragon said, "I don't really like that". When the Knight had met the Princess properly he said, "I love you too". This proclamation gave the Dragon such joy that he felt happy again and started blowing fire all over. The Elephant saw that the Dragon was blowing fire again and said, "Hey, why don't you live by the creek and lakes so you can blow fire all day long and not start fires." So, the Dragon, Pony, Elephant, Knight, and Princess all moved to the lake and lived happily ever after
